Code Explorer: privacy statutes, section by section
PIPEDA, the three British Columbia privacy statutes (PIPA, FIPPA and the Privacy Act) and the EU GDPR, with the text of each statute on the page, word for word, split into its subsections, clauses and definitions. Choose your country, then your statute, pick any sections and learn them in one go.
A study aid, not legal advice. The statute text is taken from the Justice Laws Website (Government of Canada) and BC Laws (Queen's Printer, British Columbia) and the EU Publications Office (the GDPR, as published in the Official Journal in 2016, without later corrections) and is not the official version: confirm against the official source and check for later amendments before you rely on it. PIPEDA is shown as current to the date on the statute, with Parts 3 to 6 (amendments to other Acts and coming into force) left out. Your progress is saved only in this browser, and the Reset button on the home screen erases it. Leading court and regulator decisions are shown under the sections they interpret; the full case studies are in the Case Library.
What you can do here
Read the statute itself
The words of each section, with clauses and definitions set out one by one so nothing is lost in a block of text.
Plain words and tests
Key provisions come with a plain-words explanation, a memory line and a test of their own, so each rule is checked on its own.
Choose how much
One section, a part, a whole statute, or several together. Type a section number like 10.1 to jump to it.
A rank for every part
Each part earns a rank from Beginner to Authority, counting every section in it.
Country first
Pick the country, then the statute. Only the statutes of that country are shown.
Your data is yours
